Welcome to the homepage of the IT and Environment Initiative

The IT and Environment Initiative is a consortium engaging in research and dissemination activities to improve understanding and awareness of Information Technology as it affects environmental issues and sustainability. The research draws especially on Industrial Ecology, Life Cycle Assessment and Earth Systems Engineering and Management.

Projects currently underway include:

           Assessment and management of international reuse and recycling of computers

           Life cycle assessment of IT hardware

           Design and assessment of sustainable networked delivery systems

           Using monitoring and control technologies to mitigate energy use in homes

In the summer of 2011 our team at Arizona State University conducted a series of workshops at a local high school to educate the faculty and students on sustainable electronics.
